Good luck to Piltdown at England Golf Awards

Congratulations to Piltdown Golf Club being named a finalist in the 2026 England Golf Awards for the category Women in Golf Charter Club Award.  Wishing good luck to them on Tuesday 3rd March in Manchester where the winners will be announced.

Our thanks also to Piltdown for kindly sharing their case study with us which we hope helps other clubs in the county to attract and foster growth of women and girls into the game. The SCLGA and 13 clubs across the county are already signed up to the Women in Golf Charter - see further details here and how your club can sign up.

Growing Women’s and Girls’ Golf at Piltdown Golf Club

Like many golf clubs, Piltdown was facing a familiar challenge. Their female membership was ageing, and despite having an Academy in place, they were not seeing enough new women coming into the game. In Winter 2022, Piltdown signed up to the Women in Golf Charter and committed to doing something proactive about it. Read the full case study here which includes the following areas they looked at.

  • Understanding the barriers
  • Getting the whole club on board
  • The Foundation Course: lowering the threshold
  • Recruitment: keeping it simple
  • From the range to the course
  • Making the club more welcoming
  • Where we are now and what’s next
  • Extending the model to girls’ golf
  • Final thoughts

Some pictures from scrambles, where full members play with Academy members to help them break the "course anxiety" barrier.
