County Championship Friday 30 May - 1 June 2025,
West Sussex Golf Club
The final day of the championships and the SCLGA would like to extend their thanks to Al Adams, the secretary of West Sussex GC, and his team for their generosity hosting our County Championships over the last 3 days. The course was in superb condition, the catering and service excellent throughout the weekend. We wish to extend our thanks to the Lady Captain (Emilie Hunt) and her army of volunteers who were out on the course ball-spotting and flag waving AND our thanks to all West Sussex members for supporting and allowing us to host this prestigious event at their course. Final note on the flowers which were beautifully arranged by Deirdre Wickins, and Val Stephens prepared flowers for the dining tables too.
Following yesterday's hole-in-one by Amelia McGinty, West Sussex member Mary Bond who is the Junior Organiser at West Sussex (has held this role for over 25 years), celebrated Amelia's achievement back in the clubhouse with drinks for all players and county officials. Thank you Mary.
Over the last 3 days, we have welcomed 48 players, representing 16 clubs and including 8 junior players which is considerably higher than in previous years. Promising news for the future of our Sussex teams competing at regional and national levels.

Finals
As the players headed out for the final matches, the wind had picked up following the mornings play. Players from the morning matches and the previous two days returned to spectate the final matches. Player Development Manager Sara Whittaker was in attendance throughout the weekend, prior to her county team selection for County Match Week (team to be announced shortly).
Plate Final: Paula Carver v Maisie Hassall
The plate match was hard fought, the first four holes were birdies, two each and the match was nip and tuck throughout. At the turn Paula was 1up, Maisie then won the next 3 holes and managed to hang on to the lead winning on the 17th, 2 and 1.

Championship Final: Amelia McGinty v Darci Lewis-Bradbury
The championship match with two junior players, Darci and Amelia, were well matched in their long game and numerous birdies and pars were scored. Darci took a lead of 4up at the turn with Amelia pulling it back to 2down before Darci extended her lead, with both her chipping and putting proving difficult to beat. The Runner-up to Champion & winner of Fleming Salver: Amelia McGinty
Our Sussex Ladies Champion for 2025 is Darci Lewis-Bradbury
We'd like to thank all competitors who played with excellent sportsmanship and camaraderie. We must also add our thanks to the team of referees that we had over the weekend, Jo Maddams, Kathy Morris, Ann Carnegie, Chris Handson, Stephen Lang, and Steve Wise.

Day 2 of the Championship weekend is the beginning of the knockout rounds. We had some fabulous first round matches – Amelia McGinty had a hole in one on the 8th and went on to win her match. Two matches went to the 20th hole, Chloe Briance v Maisie Hassall, and Georgia Young v Heather Tidy with Heather winning her match on the 20th with an eagle.
The winners of the morning knockouts commenced the quarter finals after a lunch break playing for the Championship Trophy, those not so fortunate played
on for the Championship Plate. The afternoon matches were as exciting as the morning. We saw two quarter finals of the Championship Plate going to the 19th hole, then Heather Tidy and Katie Field playing in the Championship took their quarter final match to the 22nd hole. Unfortunately for Heather this time it was the turn of her opposition to win through.
Playing in the Plate semi-finals tomorrow are:
Olivia Corbin v Maisie Hassall
Paula Carver v Holly Crompton.
The Championship semi-finalists are:
Darci Lewis-Bradbury v Katherine Russell
Katie Field v Amelia McGinty

The 2025 Championship & Langridge Salver commenced with an increased field and a reserve list for the third year running. Weather forecasts promised no rain for the first day so it was something of a shock for the morning to start with overcast skies and drizzle. Things improved during the morning and after lunch the sun bathed the beautiful course during a lovely Spring afternoon. The wind remained no more than a gentle breeze. The course was in superb condition as ever. Our thanks must go to the green staff for producing a Championship Course for us to play.
There were 6 eagles during the day. Amelia McGinty of West Sussex Golf Club had 3 eagles and 7 birdies. Darci Lewis-Bradbury of West Hove Golf Club had 1 eagle and 9 birdies. Delyth Roberts of Worthing Golf Club had 1 eagle and 3 birdies. Karyn Millar had 1 eagle. There were 145 birdies in total and 17 2s. No surprise that the hosts West Sussex Golf Club were our winning club this year of the Sussex Scratch Trophy – the best 3 scores from West Sussex came from Georgia Young, Clarissa Bushell, Amelia McGinty.
This year Di Langridge again came along to watch our players. It was lovely to welcome her to present her Salver and to wish her well for her forthcoming milestone birthday. The Langridge Salver was won by Karen Sykes of Worthing, with a gross 151, with Katherine Russell of Royal Ashdown Forest Golf Club as runner up.
