Committee Spotlight: Competition Committee Members Needed

The SCLGA board and committee are made up of voluntary members who all work to support the County and Ladies Golf. Its a rewarding and enjoyable role and is for a maximum term which is why we are faced with losing some of our committee members this year. We are therefore looking for new members to join the Competitions Committee.

We welcomed four new committee members last year and so caught up with two of them to see how their first year has been, if its what they expected, challenges, benefits etc. If you think you could spare some time and are interested in learning more, click here to see more about the role and contact us for an informal chat.

Welcome Alison Wilde (left) who plays at Royal Eastbourne and Miranda Des Moulins (right) who plays at Hill Barn.

How long have you been involved in golf? playing?
AW: I've been watching golf since Lee Trevino won The Open in 1971! I finally took the plunge and had my first lesson just over seven years ago.

MDM: I have been playing golf off and on for about 24 years.  The usual life events for women getting in the way along the course. I was Lady Captain at my club, Hill Barn in 2023/2024

What attracted you to join the SCLGA committee?

AW: I was impressed by the welcome and professionalism of the SCLGA volunteers I met at county events.
MDM: I have been taking part in County events over the years and it seemed a way of giving something back, appreciating the hard work that the various committee members put in.

What do you find the most enjoyable aspect?
AW: The best part is working as a member of a team, all seeking to provide great golfing opportunities for Sussex ladies.  The expectation is that we will help each other out as needed, answering questions and providing advice: you are never alone.
MDM: Being part of a successful team, delivering competitions.

Least enjoyable or any areas challenging?
AW: I'm not at my best first thing in the morning so early competition starts are challenging but I have managed fine so far and it's only been for a few days this year.
MDM: Running my first event - the Seniors Waltz was quite scary, but once I got to grip with the various systems it flowed quite well.  Also the support I was given was excellent so that I never felt alone.

Has the role been rewarding and if so, how?
AW: The most rewarding aspect is seeing ladies enjoying, and sometimes winning, competitions and knowing that my efforts have contributed to the success of the event.
MDM: The feedback after the event and working well with the team and the club manager of Mid Sussex GC

Please do get in touch with Sue Rushworth or County Captain Margaret Brown for an informal chat - the roles are for a maximum term and so we need new ladies each year to join our committee. We look forward to hearing from you.
