Seniors Friendly Matches 2025

The Sussex Senior friendlies matches have been taking place over the last few weeks and we have had some close matches, winning 1, halving 2 and sadly losing 1. All were much enjoyed by all and our thanks to the cliubs for hosting. Match reports are shared below.

Sussex v Hampshire, 9 September, Rowlands Castle GC
Our first match of the season was v Hampshire on Tuesday 9 September on a lovely day at Rowlands Castle GC.  It was a tough and close match with most going to the last hole but the matches went Hampshire’s way and they won 3-1. Thanks to my team of Rosie Hockey - Royal Ashdown Forest, Kay Grindell - Dyke, Alison Vermes - Pyecombe, Pam Homer Goodwood, Mary Bell, Sara Young and Sharon Port - Crowborough Beacon. Sussex v Surrey 12 September Crowborough Beacon
Sussex hosted Surrey for our match at Crowborough on Friday 12 September .  We had challenging windy conditions but everyone was very complementary about the course and we were well looked after by the staff at Crowborough Beacon GC.  The 4 matches were all competitive and a halved match 2-2 was a fair result on the day. Thank you to Crowborough Beacon Golf Club for hosting this event. Thank you to the team of Alison Hopson and Rosie Hockey - Royal Ashdown Forest, Gillian Garcia - Copthorne, Kay Grindell and Fiona Roberts - Dyke, Sara Young, Deborah James and Marion Sandwell - Crowborough Beacon. Sussex v Berkshire 24 September, Eastbourne Berkshire GC
We all had long journeys and with traffic problems, it meant a quick turnaround and we were off playing golf. None of the team had played the course before. It’s a beautiful parkland course with fantastic holes and true running greens so all credit to our team in securing a 2.5-1.5 win against the Berkshire team.  We were well looked after by our hosts and we all thoroughly enjoyed our day. Thanks go to my team of Pam Homer - Golf at Goodwood, Jenny Black - Worthing. Carol Duncumb and Gráinne Kane (her first County Match) - Dyke, Mary Bell, Sharon Port, Vicki McLean and Deborah James - Crowborough Beacon. 

Sussex v Kent, 29 September, Cooden Beach GC
Our final match was held at Cooden Beach GC on Monday 29 September on a beautiful calm sunny day. Most played in short sleeves against a very competitive Kent team and we were pleased with a well fought halved match.  I would like to thank Ben at Cooden Beach GC and to Glen and his staff for looking after us so well. Thanks to Pat Johns, Gráinne Kane and Alison Vans Agnew - Dyke, Pam Homer - Golf at Goodwood, Jenny Black - Worthing, Alison Lush - Nevill  and Sharon Port and Deborah James - Crowborough Beacon.
