After 2 consecutive wins the defending Champions’ Sussex team was represented by Paula Carver (Worthing), Clarissa Bushell (West Sussex), Katherine Russell (Royal Ashdown Forest) and a debut performance by the Seniors Captain Sara Whittaker (Willingdon).
On Sunday the players made an early morning journey to the Sittingbourne and Milton Regis GC in Kent.
The practice round was played in calm sunny conditions, which did not totally prepare everyone for the conditions on Monday morning. Although the sun was shining a fierce north westerly wind brought not only a chilling factor but challenging conditions on this tree lined golf course. I witnessed many very low handicap players coming off the 18th green disappointed with their overall scores.
In this scratch stroke play competition, for teams of 4 with best three scores to count and the 4th to be used in the event of a tie, the host County team of Kent prevailed as winners. The fighting spirit of the Sussex team brought them in a close second with Surrey placed in third position.
Kent scored 237, Sussex 241 and Surrey 242, all results can be seen on the Kent Golf website
Organising this event for the 3 years of my President role will remain my most memorable duty because these amazing players have shared their passion, and dedication for the sport with commitment to representing the County.
