Sussex 2's v Surrey - Stovold Trophy

Sussex 2nd team knew they had a mighty task on their hands to stop Surrey winning the Stovold Trophy which they have held since 2018. The morning foursomes saw Tracy Poulsom  (RAF) & Sian Southerton (Bognor) finish on the 18th 2up. Emma Bullock (Worthing) & Sara Whittaker (Willingdon) fought hard but finished on 17, 2/1. 

The team re-grouped after lunch and Emma Morgan (Crowborough) battled hard against Kim Munro as did Mandy Hilton also from Crowborough. Mandy lost on 17 to ex-Sussex player Alice!!. Next was Sian who took her match to 17 and Tracy lost on the 18th. Sara approached 16, 1 down and managed to half the match on 18 whilst Emma fought against the youngster and went down on the 17th.

Team manager Sara was really proud of the team's spirit. All players were up against much lower handicappers but showed great determination. Taking Surrey players to the 17th & 18th holes when there is a 4/5 shot difference in handicap is a major achievement. I hope this gives the team the confidence to go out and win their last match against Kent next week at Sundridge Park.

Congratulations must go to Surrey on retaining the Stovold Trophy once again.They were great hosts and treated us well at Banstead Downs Golf Club.
