Sussex Seniors V Surrey (A) Scratch League

The Seniors enjoyed an overnighter thanks to the lovely Clarissa who put the team up after a very hot practice round at the stunning Hindhead GC on the Sunday. Only one member of the team knew the course although they had played it some years earlier. Surrey were keen to ensure a highly competitive game and 3 of their team were also seen having a practice round the day before!!!

After a beautiful cooked breakfast from our super attentive host we headed off to the club to find out who we would be playing. Sussex were up for a fight in their 2nd away match of the season in the Mulligan Larsen Trophy.

  1. Karen Sykes - Worthing GC
  2. Paula Carver - Worthing GC
  3. Aileen Greenfield - Pyecombe GC
  4. Clarissa Bushell - West Sussex GC
  5. Katherine Russell - Royal Ashdown Forest GC
  6. Sara Whittaker - Willingdon GC

Well what a difference a day makes. The practice round was super hot and fairly still and today it was 'blowing an absolute hooley'. Karen set off against the well renowned Julia Brook and got the team out of the blocks well winning 2 & 1. Paula playing at no 2 today got an excellent half against Debbie Richards. 3rd out was Aileen who beat Maggie Whittet on the 18th. Clarissa drew the short straw and played captain Belinda Pope who plays her golf at Hindhead. Clarissa went down but put up a good fight, however Katherine came in next with a 3 & 1 win. Lastly, captain Sara was up against Sheppy, well known to the rest of the team! Sara lost on the 18th but after finding out she lost to an ex pro was delighted to have got to the last hole.

Sara came off disappointed to find Clarissa and the rest of team with large smiles on their faces. This must mean Sussex have sneaked a win! A 3 1/2 - 2 1/2 win to Sussex was a great win away from home on a tough course.

Surrey were super hosts and we had a late lunch and good chat before heading off home.

2 out of 2 for Sussex with another game against Middlesex away at Highgate on Thursday 17th July. Good luck to the team who are without Aileen and Sara.
