CMW Day Three (Final) Report, Wednesday 25th June 2025
Today saw the last matches of the week and our opponents this time were Middlesex. The team today was Karen Sykes and Darci Lewis-Bradbury followed by Aileen Greenfield and Amelia McGinty in the Foursomes matches. In the singles Maddy Harris was first out followed by Holly Crompton and finally Katie Field.
On the first hole Middlesex chipped in for an Eagle and after that continued to frustrate our pair who played well but couldn’t quite get back in the lead. Our 2nd pair Aileen and Amelia were still buzzing from their win yesterday and continued with the winning streak. Once ahead they stayed in front and closed the match with a lovely chip out of the bunker landing close to the hole by Amelia, then Aileen sunk the put to win their match on the 15th.
In the singles Maddy won her match on the 17th hole but sadly Katie lost to the Middlesex strongest player. This meant that Holly’s match would be the decider. After initially going 2 down she fought back to All Square. By the time she got to the 17th she was 2 up with 2 to play and just needed a half. Middlesex played a wonderful long shot into the green but missed her putt whilst after chipping up Holly had a put for a win. Sadly her ball just went off line at the last moment meaning that the match had to go on to the 18th. Both players played well and again the match went down to the putts. As Holly stood over her putt there were at least 30 supporters from both sides willing her putt to go either in or out. This time Holly didn’t miss and secured the win for Sussex 3-2.
It has been a great week and the standard of golf was wonderful to watch. There was great team spirit supporting one another and the future of golf in Sussex looks good.
