Heritage of the Beryl Pockett Salver
The salver was presented in 1947 by Miss Beryl Pockett (West Sussex) who was a member of the first County Team. The first competition was played at a new Autumn Meeting which took place in September, 1948 at Worthing. In 1951, the winner was the player returning the best scratch score in 36 holes in the Spring (Championship) and 36 holes in the Autumn Cup. It was briefly played over 54 holes but returned to 72 holes in 1993.

Beryl was a well-known international golfer before the war and was the WAAF's Commanding Officer at Tangmere and joined up at the time of the Munich Crisis. She met her husband at RAF Benson. Beryl died in December 2005 whilst living in Pulborough having made it to the age of 90.
