Seniors and Veterans

Chris Handson, President SCLGA

2018 has been yet again a very successful year for our Seniors in the League and the 2nd Team Matches, where under the stewardship of Jo Galway, we’ve won the Mulligan Larsen Bowl for the 4th year in a row against Essex, Kent, Middlesex and Surrey.

The 2nd Team are runners-up in the Stovold Trophy, having won it for 3 years in succession up until 2017.

2109 heralds new Team Manager’s of Sara Whittaker from Willingdon who has taken over from Jo Galway (Mulligan Larsen Seniors League) and Sandra Holman from Haywards Heath will manage the 2nd Team.  Carol Smith continues to run the Seniors Friendly Matches for this year.

Congratulations to all the players who have participated in these games and kept Sussex on the map, and good luck to all competitors in the 2019 season.

Seniors Scratch League

Sara Whittaker from Willingdon is the Team Manager of the Seniors Scratch League; as a recent Seniors player with a competitive handicap of 6 she has taken on the role of Team Manager for the 18/19 Season.  The shoes left by Jo Galway will be hard to fill, but Sussex offers a strong side with players such as Aileen Greenfield, Clarissa Bushell, Karen Sykes, Katherine Russell all of whom have played in the Sussex 1st Team.

The Seniors Scratch League enables ladies in the infamous over 50s club to participate in matchplay against Essex, Kent, Middlesex and Surrey over the summer months.  Ideally for players who have handicaps between 1 and 8, Sara knows that Sussex offers many enthusiastic, competitive players and she will contact those individuals who fit the bill.

Sara hopes to retain the Mulligan Larsen Bowl for a 6th year and carry on with the undisputed success of the seniors that Jo has started! Good luck Sara.

Seniors Friendly Matches

Carol Smith from Golf at Goodwood is the Seniors Friendly Manager for the County.

These matches are designed specifically for the over 50s with a handicap of less than 10. Additionally, those ladies over 50 who don’t play in the 2nd Team get a chance to participate in friendly, yet competitive golf over the summer months.  The format is 4-Ball Betterball (4 pairs) off handicap, against Berkshire, Hampshire, Kent and Surrey.  Each season will entail 2 home and 2 away matches.  The dates for the matches will be published early in 2019.

Carol is always keen to hear from individuals who would like to be considered for selection and fit the criteria – do please contact her by email here.
