The 1st team represent Sussex in County Match Week which takes place annually against Hampshire, Kent, Middlesex and Surrey. This year, County Match Week was at Hockley GC from 25th – 29th June and the format is three foursomes matches in morning and six singles matches in the afternoon. The winners will go on to represent the South in the National Finals in September.
The 2018 team selection was the top 4 places in the Order of Merit and the remaining places chosen by the selection committee.

County Match Week Report
Day 1 – Sussex played Middlesex in tropical heat and the morning foursomes saw Sussex win all 3 matches. The afternoon singles with 2 rookies in the team of Anna Wills and Ellen Nicholas both secured a point, enabling Sussex to beat Middlesex 5-4.
Day 2 – Sussex played Hampshire, the hosts, on another blazing hot day. A repeat of day 1, with Sussex winning the foursomes and going into the afternoon singles 3-0. Great play by the team saw Sussex winning 6.5 – 2.5.
Day 3 – Sussex played Surrey, which was always going to be a tough match. The morning foursomes was won by Sussex 2-1. Sussex went out fighting, but Surrey proved too strong. Fenella Buss had a fantastic win, but the rest of the team didn’t fare so well. The final score was 3 – 6.
Day 4 – Sussex with it’s 4th match on the trot in the heatwave, now played Kent. 1-2 down after the morning matches the girls went out to play the singles with determination. Penny and Brandy won their singles matches but Kent were stronger on the day and went on to take the remainder of the matches.
Surrey won County Match Week and will represent the South Region at County Finals in North Devon and Sussex were runners up.
