Bognor held its 5th Sussex Girls Masters event recently which is supported by several sponsors to give the girls around the county a tournament with some great prizes. This year saw Glen Dimplex, TLC join the regular supporters of Reynolds, Dukes Motors, Fabco and the “The Sunday Boys”.
The weather was kind with sunshine peeping through occasionally, however, the temperature was cool to say the least. The girls went out in 3’s with Gudran Nolan starting quickly out of the blocks by eagling the 1st and then winning nearest the pin at the 5th.
The next prize was nearest the pin in 2 on the 16th, Katie Field hit a great shot into 20 feet which was good enough to take her first of prize of the day.
Whilst the tournament is a scratch event, there are handicap trophies as well. First place was Alanna Ross from Dale Hill, she is 11 years old and looks a good prospect for the future. The main event saw Bognor’s Katie Field take the Scratch Prize with a gross 77, winning by 5 clear shots. Katie was chuffed to bits winning at her home club, taking the trophy and the traditional “pink jumper”!
In her winning speech she thanked everyone involved with a special mention to the ladies (Lynn, Ann and Gill) who support the juniors with ball spotting and any refereeing.
The next stage for both Alanna and Katie is to wait to see if they’ve qualified for Spain in a national tournament run by the Daily Telegraph. The key sponsor name this year is Justin Rose, so fingers crossed for them both.
