Speedgolf – traditionally a summer sport when the days are longer, but it may be just the sport over the winter months when the idea of golfing for over 3 hours in the cold, frost and wet is far from appealing.  News has reached us that Holtye and Sweetwoods have hosted Speedgolf training and taster courses during January and February.  Such was the enthusiasm that their social sessions will now be offered on a regular basis over 9 or 18 holes.

The advantages of the shorter form of the game are manyfold – from eliminating the time spent overthinking the shot, the time spent on the course and the huge health benefits from running on a soft surface. It’s a form of golf that’s on the rise and is seeing more people, whatever their age, getting involved.

Sweetwoods Park, just along the road from Holtye, are also Speedgolf enthusiasts and are offering weekly social Speedgolf sessions on Wednesdays at 8.30am on the back 9 once the weather improves. Sweetwoods is also proud to be hosting the British Pairs Championships on Saturday 8th June.  Tracy Poulsom, Lady Captain is looking to compete and hopes to inspire more women to give it a try.  Women can play as a single gender pair, but mixed pairs is also an option especially for those who have golfing partners or colleagues who may enjoy a challenge.
