The SCLGA also says goodbye to Jo Galway who has been in charge of the Seniors for the past 5 years.  She is delighted to leave the Seniors in the capable hands of Sara Whittaker from Willingdon who will take on the role from 2019.

2018 has been yet another triumphant for the Sussex Seniors Scratch League team winning the Mulligan Larsen Bowl for the fourth year in a row against Surrey, Kent, Middlesex and Essex.  Each match consists of 6 singles matchplay games and each individual game within each match counts towards the final result.  Sussex have played fantastic golf throughout the season winning all of their matches.

Cottesmore and Crowborough generously hosted out home matches this year, where Sussex beat Essex 4.5 – 1.5 at Cottesmore and beat Kent 5 – 1 at Crowborough.  The team played Middlesex away at Ealing and won 4 – 2 and, most importantly, beat Surrey away at Burhill 3.5 – 2.5.  This ensured that the Seniors pipped Surrey by just 1.5 points/games totalling 17 in all for Sussex against 15.5 for Surrey, so all very exciting.

The matches have been hard fought with some excellent golf in the true spirit of the game.  Thank you again to the players for their continued commitment to the Sussex Seniors scratch League and well done on such a terrific year – long may it continue.

The players representing Sussex for 2018 were:

Jo Galway – Piltdown
Aileen Greenfield – Pyecombe
Karen Sykes – Worthing
Katherine Russell, Jacs Marlio and Rosie Hockey – Royal Ashdown Forest
Clarissa Bushell – West Sussex
Teresa Ward – Royal Eastbourne
Daisy Kane – West Sussex
Iona McKean – Cottesmore
Sara Whittaker- willingdon
Jo Galway says, “It has been my privilege to be a part of the inauguration of the Mulligan Larsen Bowl Seniors Scratch League, if at times a bit challenging, but I hope that it is now well enough established in the counties fixture list to enable it to continue for many years to come and that Sussex continues to build on it’s success.”
