Our team has just returned from the Senior Inter Counties Strokeplay Championship which was played at Littlestone on Monday. With ten counties competing, the format was best 3 scores from 4 aggregate, and in tricky conditions good scores were hard to find. The course showed its real character by being very benign on Sunday during the practice round, but on Monday the wind got up and came from a different direction – which made the team’s notes from the day before useless!
The course played long and tough, and to quote Jo Galway ‘the pins were very smelly!’ The Sussex team (pictured with Mel Boyse, County President and Sue Todd, County Captain) was Jo Galway (Pyecombe) Alison Vans Agnew (Dyke) Daisy Kane (West Sussex) and Carol Smith (Goodwood).
They came a creditable joint 5th on 249. The winners, making the most of their home advantage, were Kent on 235, with Berkshire in second place on 241.
The team would like to thank Mel and Sue for their support and encouragement – and they report that they are determined to make their mark next time!
