A bright but chilly day at Worthing saw some spectacular matchplay in the 2nd day of the Scratch Foursomes. Twelve teams played in the morning and, like the day before, there were some decisive results – achieved by some very steady and accurate play by the winning teams.
The afternoon quarter finals were played in slightly warmer conditions which seemed to encourage the teams and three of the matches were closely fought.
Match of the day was Pyecombe against East Brighton. The young guns from East Brighton – Fenella Buss and Holly Crompton were 2 up with 2 to play, but experience and skill shone through from Aileen Greenfield and Alison Vermes as they won the 17th and then Alison sunk a 25 foot putt on the 18th to extend the match to extra holes. Both teams were just short of the green in 2 on the 19th and Fenella’s chip to within 3 feet was the decisive shot which gave East Brighton a win.
The semi finals begin at 8.30am tomorrow – supporters are very welcome and the consolation match will be at 1.00pm with the final at 1.10pm. Do come and support your club and see some of the County’s finest players in action.
