This penultimate County competition of 2018, held in memory of Glenda Ricketts, was played on a rather damp Autumn day.  The course was in fine condition, with fast true greens and Nevill GC, as ever, gave us a very warm welcome.  There were 60 lady competitors from 20 different clubs across Sussex taking part!

As the aim is to raise money for the Breast Cancer Now charity, pink was very much the order of the day both for golf and après-golf attire. The clubhouse also echoed the theme with pink floral arrangements and table decorations.

The Salvers were won by Deborah James and Clare Smith, both from Dyke with an impressive score of 40 points.  In accepting the prize, and most fittingly, Clare Smith told us that, after ten years, she had just been given the all clear from breast cancer.  A worthy winner indeed.

Second, with 39 points were Jacs Marlio from Royal Ashdown Forest and Jan Gates from Seaford.

Third were Caroline Hawkes and Kathy Donohoe from Chichester with 37 points.

Nearest the Pin on the 9th hole was won by Colleen Alton from Nevill, and nearest the pin on the 12th hole was won by Tracy Poulson from Sweetwoods.  The Best Back 9 with 20 points was won (on countback) by Jane Rogers and Grainne Kane both from Dyke.   The Best Front 9 with 20 points was won by Rosie Chisholm-Hill from Copthorne, and Janis Wilson from Ifield.

Mel Kirk, Glenda’s daughter played in the competition and John Ricketts, Glenda’s husband kindly presented the prizes.  The raffle which was run by Denise Fraser 2018 Lady Captain of Nevill raised £480.00.  A cheque for £250.00 from Bea and Neil Janes through Keymer and Hassocks Sports club was also donated, with a further £50 in cash.

After a sumptuous carvery roast, the results of the silent auction were announced, which raised a generous total of £705.00.  In total we expect to send approximately £1485.00 to the Breast Cancer Now Charity.

Another very successful day raising money for charity, with thanks to all those who took part and gave so generously.
