The Division 1 Inter-Club Quarter Finals were held on Monday 29th July at Littlehampton Golf Club on a warm sunny day with a light breeze – with the ball running well on this beautifully prepared links course.

The first teams out at were Cottesmore and Chichester with matches swinging between the two clubs and one going up the 19th, but it was the final pair who settled the match with a win for Chichester.

The next teams to play were Bognor Regis against Haywards Heath.  Bognor who qualified as the 1st best runner-up fielded a very strong team and were the winners.

Next to play were West Sussex v Rye.  Again this was closely fought with another match going up the 19th, now having to fit in around the very accommodating men’s fourballs.  A win for Rye will mean another early start for them for the Semi Finals.

The final teams to tee off were Crowborough Beacon v Worthing.  Worthing have won this trophy for the past 4 years and qualified this year as the 2nd best runner-up. With the matches swinging each way until the last two – with a win for Worthing.

The line-up for the Division 1 Semi-Final will be:

  • Chichester v Bognor Regis
  • Rye v Worthing

Thanks must be extended to our starters Ann Carnegie, Chris Handson and Pat Johns.  Thank you also to Ann for not only delivering the tee markers and flag but driving round and collecting them up after play.  Shaun Manning the General Manager of Littlehampton Golf Club with Angie in his office could not have been more helpful and with Jane behind the bar and Debbie Baldwin and her team managing the catering superbly, the day ran smoothly. Thank you also to Jill Carter (Lady Captain) for her help and the ball spotters which were invaluable.
