The first 2018 Coaching Clinic was held at Mid Sussex Golf Club with resident Pro, Lee Andrews. In the beautiful Autumn sunshine16 participants enjoyed mastering the skills needed for improving the short game.
Working in groups of 4 at stations set up for drills for pitching over a bunker, playing out of the bunker, the chip and run shot and a putting drill for alignment, slope and pace. These fun exercises, although challenging, created a fun element of competitiveness as one group was seen measuring the putt to establish the winning chip – this was a good indicator for the competitive edge needed for the afternoon 9 holes when only the number of putts per hole were to be scored!!
Following a break for lunch everyone headed out on the course and played the back 9 in further blazing sunshine and a winning score of 14 putts was recorded by Sue Norris from Seaford Head Golf Club. Her playing partners confirmed that she had pitched and chipped close to make mostly single putts – what an appropriate testimonial for the day’s coaching?!?! And surely enough evidence that it’s the short game that’s more important than any other part of your golfing ability…
Sue will receive a very generous prize of a free lesson with Lee Andrews to be availed at a mutually suitable date.
