The last two years have flown by, it is almost time for me to hang up my ‘boots’ as County Captain and hand over to Pat Johns.  It has been a very busy, fun filled, exciting and interesting two years.  The weather has thrown everything at us starting with my County Captain’s Christmas Lunch being cancelled due to snow then the Delegates meeting cancelled due to burst pipes, fog at the championships, thunder and lightening at the President’s trophy, flooding at the Division semi-finals and that was all in the first 6 months!

This year has been a little kinder; but we have still had our minor weather problems.  The life of a county captain is one of travel to and fro to various events, seeing competitors off on the 1st tee and of course giving out the prizes at the end of the day.  I have enjoyed the company and help of all the committee; but especial thanks to Sandra Holman who was by my side for the first year giving advice and to Pat Johns this year who has been a great support. Our out-going President, Chris Handson has supported me throughout and was always there with the rule book and wise advice when needed.  We made a good team!

One of my highlights of the two years was being involved with Junior County Match Week at Haywards Heath.  Through the most appalling weather, the girls kept focused and positive and when the time came to get on the golf course and perform – they did, magnificently.  I will always remember standing on the golf course with Louise Simmons (County Junior Organiser) watching the groups of the final match, play out the last few holes and the moment we both realised that SUSSEX had won!

So now there will be more time for golf and more time for the family – but I will have to look for another project as I’ll have time on my hands!
