On Sunday 27th September, Nevill GC played host to a Junior “Progression” Stableford which, for a number of the girls, was their very first experience of County competitive golf. All in all it was a very successful day for all the girls who entered who conducted themselves extremely well and came off the course smiling. The weather was not kind, bringing us the first truly autumnal (actually winter-like) temperatures and cold light winds.
We were fortunate that the Nevill allowed a small socially-distanced presentation at the end, and our congratulations go to Millie Lynsdale-Knock (Horsham) for her fantastic win with 35 points.
Runner up was young Ruby Fisher (Chartham Park) with a brilliant 33 points.
Our younger and newer juniors entered the 9 hole Stableford competition, with Elena Teubler (Poult Wood) clinching the trophy with 14 points. Eleanor Frost (Royal Ashdown) was the runner up with 11 points.
Thanks go to Nevill Golf Club for hosting this first ever Progression Stableford Competition and to Annabel Buckland (Junior Organiser) for her fantastic organisational skills. The girls were all greeted with a goodie bag, and had the company of one of Nevill’s lady members to guide them round the course.
This type of competition for newer junior golfers is something we would like to continue – ideally sharing the experience at clubs around the County. If there are any other clubs willing to host a similar event in 2021, then Louise Simmons (County Junior Organiser) would be delighted to hear from you. Please email her here.
