Through the winter months (October, November, February and March) junior coaching sessions were held at Mid-Sussex Golf Club with Lee Andrews.
A number of girls attended, some coming along to all four sessions. Their ages ranged from 7 to 14 years; some with handicaps from their respective clubs, and others still to acquire handicaps.
With variable weather conditions, the girls appreciated being in the teaching studios for the 2-hour morning sessions. In each session, Lee worked with them on their game, focusing on different clubs and endeavouring to get them to think about their shots and not just doing things by rote. Sometimes the girls’ swings were filmed and other times put on a shot tracer, which helped the girls analyse what they’d done!
The morning sessions would finish off with a competition: driving, chipping or putting, which often cost Lee several chocolate bars!
After warming up with a delicious hot chocolate and a jacket potato lunch, the girls spent the remaining hour of the session practising bunker shots, putting or playing a few holes out on the course. All the girls enjoyed the coaching which has definitely improved their play and seen some good friendships developing.
As Junior Development Organiser, Christine Knight was delighted with how the sessions had gone and hope they will encourage all the girls to attend other junior events later in the year.
