At the recent Delegates Zoom Meeting, Louise Simmons (Junior Golf Director) highlighted the work undertaken by the Junior Committee alongside Sussex County Coach, Rob Chruszcz, to nurture and support the junior girls on their golfing journey.

The pathway into junior golf nowadays has moved on a pace with an excellent and well structured development plan which allows Louise, Sussex Coaches and Pros to identify new girls and their path into the game from grass roots coaching through to England Golf regional tuition, and some into US tutoring.

The basic options available are:

GIRLS GOLF ROCKS: Sussex continues to offer Girls Golf Rocks at selected clubs – this is aimed at girls aged between 5 and 14 years of age, as a fun introduction to the game of golf. For more information click on this link Girls Golf Rocks

PARTICIPATION LEVEL:  Rob Chruszcz runs this program at Rustington Golf – it’s targeted towards girls between the age of 7 and 12 who have a grasp of the game and might be showing early potential.  Contact Louise Simmons for more information here.

ACADEMY COACHING: We are working with selected Coaches who in the past offered coaching for boys only….we have firmly established a place for girls here, and this can be a great stepping stone to the Sussex County squad.  Last year 5 girls were invited to the Academy and this year the number has increased to 11 girls.  England Golf help fund this academy for under 14 year olds.

COUNTY SQUAD: Our county squad remains steady, with 3 new girls joining us this season:  Lottie Peter – Nevill;  Ruby Fisher – Chartham Park; Millie Lynsdale-Nock – Horsham………there are 11 girls in total from around the County.

AGENCIES FOR USA PLACEMENT:  Many of our county squad choose to aim for a scholarship to an American college to further their golfing journeys…..we can help guide candidates towards suitable placement agencies to support their goals.

GIRLS ONLY COACHING: We are also committed to offering girls’ only coaching to any level player…..these will be advertised on the SCLGA website and SCLGA social media sites. Dates and venues will be available soon.

Last year gave the Junior Section of the SCLGA a fabulous opportunity to locate and invite more girls to play their first ever rounds of competitive golf amongst likeminded individuals within our county.  We know that some girls struggle to find female playing companions when there are so few at a given golf club, so we are endeavouring to get them all on a communication system at an early age where they can locate and connect with other golfing girls within Sussex.
