Caroline Hawkes from Chichester GC will become County Vice-Captain later this year. Since joining the County Committee she has organised the Seniors Waltz, the Jerdein and President’s Trophy as well as being Div. 3 secretary for the past two years. She is currently Competitions Secretary with a fairly small brief due to the worldwide Covid crisis curtailing most of the County events, sadly. Notwithstanding, Caroline has a wealth of knowledge concerning competitions and the new handicap system – which will certainly be very helpful to us all!
Caroline went to PE College in Liverpool (which is now part of Liverpool University) where her main game was lacrosse. She captained the first Scotland Team on tour to Australia and also played in the first women’s World Cup held at Trent Bridge Cricket Ground.
After leaving PE College, Caroline took up golf and soon became a proficient golfer at two clubs (Ludlow and Newbury & Crookham) before getting married and moving to Sussex. Caroline joined Chichester in 1994 shortly after it opened and has been Competition Secretary, Handicap Secretary and Lady Captain both twice! She plays off a handicap of 13.
Many congratulations to Caroline and we wish her well for her future role with the County.
