The Junior Girls Elite Squad headed to West Hove GC for their first training session of the season with Sussex Girls’ Coach Ryan Fenwick on Saturday.
The session opened with CJO Pat Johns talking to the girls and their parents by welcoming them to the new season and discussing time management and prioritisation for the young golfer.
Ryan then gave a presentation about being ‘Battle Ready’ for the season and the importance of short game skills – 50 yards in to the green. The girls then practised wedge shots on the range, with targets at varying distances.
After lunch they played a friendly foursomes competition over 11 holes in lovely Spring sunshine. The winners were Yasmin Hang and Anya Olsen, with Megan Edwards and Lille-Beau Thorpe coming in a close second.
The girls all showed great enthusiasm and commitment to their development and the squad. Twelve girls attended with age ranges from 10-17 and handicaps from 3-14.
Many thanks to West Hove for providing great practice facilities and use of the course, to Ryan Fenwick for another very enjoyable and challenging session and to Sandra Holman, our County Captain, for supporting the girls.
The attendees were: Lizzie Price (Junior Captain) and Chloe Burdon (Nevill) Fenella Buss and Holly Crompton (East Brighton) Brandy Rook (Royal Eastbourne) Megan Edwards and Anya Olsen (Worthing) Sasha Gardiner (Chartham Park) Yasmin Hang (Goodwood) Salysa Mason (Cottesmore) Katie Field (Bognor Regis) and Lille-Beau Thorpe (Cowdray).
