The Development Squad had a training session at Rustington Golf Centre last weekend with professionals Kieron Judges and Russ Evans. The following report was written by our Rookie Report for the day, Anya Olsen.
We arrived at Rustington bright and early for 8am and took part in an invigorating warm up including planks, squats and plenty of stretching.
After that we went into action on the par 3 to play a game called par 27. We got 1 point for missing the green, we then had to make an up and down to get 3 points. This was a tricky game – easy to miss the green but difficult to make the up and down! Next we did chipping with Kieron and a ladder game where we had to chip and get it in to the first rung, then the second and once we got to the fourth, we had to work our way back.
After some practice we were placed in teams and had a competition. The younger ones, Lille-Beau, Katie and Yasmin, beat us older ones and put us to shame! Then we went over to Russ to do some putting drills including ladders, putting along a straight line and a game where he had set up a course of 3 colour cones at greater distances from hole. The easiest being the red cones where we had to complete the four holes in 2 under then the blue cones in 1 under and the white cones in level. If at any point we three putted, then we had to start at the beginning of the red course again!
