Day one is 36 holes medal played off scratch with the top 16 going through to the knockout stage of the Championship. The first few players teed off in a fine drizzle and cool temperatures; but this didn’t seem to effect the standard of play. There were some excellent scores posted in the morning with Aileen Greenfield coming in with a gross 73 and Holly Crompton, Chloe Burdon, Chloe Briance and Clarissa Bushell a gross 74. Thankfully the weather improved a bit in the afternoon although the course was playing long with tricky greens designed to test the golfers!
The Langridge Trophy is awarded to the best aggregate gross score over 36 holes for ladies over the age of 50. We were delighted to welcome Di Langridge who presented the trophy to Aileen Greenfield who had the winning total of 152, the runner up was Karen Sykes with 153.
The Club Team Trophy was won by the Cottesmore team of Salysa Mason, Penny Gaunt and Iona McKean with a total of 485 over the 36 holes.
The course was in excellent condition. Many thanks to the staff and lady members for their help. The ball spotters, strategically placed on the 7th and 10th holes were kept busy, especially the ladies on the 10th hole – that pond has a lot to answer for! Thank you ladies your help was invaluable.
Tomorrow the match play knockout stage begins with the first tee time at 08.30. The draw is on the website. Good luck ladies, play well.
