You may recall back in August that the Coronation Foursomes Regional Final took place at Worthing GC and we had two local Sussex winners, Linda Atkins and Christine Knight from Cottesmore, coming in with only 34 points!
Christine reports that “It was a really rainy day and that had slicked up the greens, so we only had 13 points out but managed to par 6 of the last ten holes, giving us a back nine of 21 points!  We thought 34 was just about respectable but were leaders in the clubhouse for the next 5 and a quarter hours! The pair that matched our score came in about 10 groups from the end of the field when the weather had improved but got quite windy; however, they had shot even 17s on both 9s, so we won on count back!”
The ladies will fly up to Scotland on Sunday 23rd September and hope to practice 9 holes before a photo-shoot on the Swilken Bridge and then it’s the competition proper on Monday 24th.  They’re very excited – it’s no mean feat to get to the last 32 players from a starting field of 25,000!  Two years ago, Margaret Swatman and Catherine Malins also from Cottesmore, won their regional final at East Brighton and they’re green with envy that they’re not going again!
Keep your fingers crossed for the ladies! The winning pair get an invitation to play in the Pro-Am at next year’s British Ladies Open at Woburn – oh! the stuff of dreams!
Good luck Christine and Linda.
