Congratulations to Hannah Ralph for winning the 88th Roehampton Ladies Gold Challenge Cup on Saturday. Hannah, a previous Sussex County Champion who has represented the county on many occasions at both junior and senior level, turned Professional and now works at Cowdray Park.
The scores reflected the cool, blustery conditions on Saturday when 54 professionals and amateurs from across the country assembled to play two rounds over the parkland course in south-west London. There was no relief during the day as the greens became ever faster and more firm in the drying wind. This year it was the turn of the professionals to collect the top three prizes. Hannah produced two excellent rounds of 73 and 80 for a total 153 to come home the winner of the Gold Challenge Cup by one shot.
Hannah tells us ‘having finished 4th, 3rd, 2nd in consecutive years, it’s great to have finally won it!! Scoring was tough due to the conditions – it was really windy and gusty at times and the greens were very firm and fast – 11 on the stimp meter! I was patient, kept going and was pleased with my game. I had Karen (Francis) on the bag which was great and she was proud of my performance – both the golf and the mental aspect of it. The hard work is paying off!’
Emma Goddard from Royal Liverpool was second on a count back from Rebecca McGinley, Wearside, both professionals on 154. Leading the amateur charge was Lizzie Prior from Burhill, playing off +2 and runner-up in the recent Surrey County Championships, in fourth place on 155 (78,77).
