Neville Centennary

Jo Hamer

The Nevill GC celebrated its Centenary on 12th January with the Captains wearing Edwardian dress at their drive-in. The new Centenary flag was raised and good drives were struck by all despite their attire!  Jo Hamer was Ladies Captain in 2004 and was re-elected for the Centenary year.

The Nevill GC celebrated its Centenary on 12th January with the Captains wearing Edwardian dress at their drive-in.  The new Centenary flag was raised and good drives were struck by all despite the attire!  Club President, the Marquess of Abergavenny, joined the celebrations along with Greg Clark, the Tunbridge Wells local MP.  TV news cameras were there, click here for the ITV news coverage.

The Club has produced a fantastic book covering much of its 100 year history but sadly not the full story as all the early records were destroyed by a V1 bomb in WW2.  One thing that did survive was the story of a Club that put women first, as from the outset in 1914 women members had full voting rights – four years before women won the right to vote in general elections!

There was a special award for Molly Hodgson, pictured here, who was appointed an honorary life member on reaching her centenary on 11.12.13. Having not played for about a year, she promises she’ll be back this season!
