The weatherman delivered the promised sunshine after yesterday’s torrential rain, all set to go for the match against Essex. The morning foursomes went our way with Katherine and Chelsea, pictured right, closing out their match 8&7 on the 11th hole, inspiring the rest of the team to play superb golf.
Chloe and Jelina had a hard fight, there was never more than one in it until well into the back 9 when Jelina hit an approach shot to within a few inches to win the hole. After that they didn’t look back and confidently closed out the match 3&1 – big grins from them after that match!
Our third pair, Karen and Sophie, had a hard match with their opponents sinking putts and chipping in from all over the place, sadly it wasn’t their day and Essex won that match. The lunch time score was 2-1 to us.
The team went out for the afternoon singles with Chelsea, our County Champion leading the field. Chelsea and Penny both secured a half, with Penny sinking a great putt on the 18th. Sophie and Aileen both had convincing wins 5&4. Paula had an amazing match against the Essex county champion, narrowly losing on the 17th.
Great team performance from Sussex to secure a 5-4 win.
The sunshine brought with it plenty of spectators wearing their yellow County colours. The players really appreciated their support, especially when matches got tense. A sea of yellow bolsters the team’s confidence, particularly when the sun shines as it did today.
Congratulations to Nottinghamshire (who narrowly pipped us yesterday) for securing the title of 2015 County Champions today. Having won four matches, they scooped the title with a match in hand thanks to Bucks beating Lancs today.
