Glad tidings from the Indian Ocean island of Mauritius, where Alison Moss of Ham Manor and Golf at Goodwood has won the Air Mauritius Open, on this her 6th attempt. She reports that last year she was in contention, but nerves got the better of her, so this was a well deserved victory.
The Stableford format takes place over 3 rounds, and 2 courses, namely the Legend Course and the Constance Belle Mare Plage. After the first two rounds Alison was joint 4th in the net competition, having a consistent 70 points from the first two days (35 points both days) and sitting 6 points behind the overall leader.
In the final round, Alison played a great front 9 amassing 21 points. In her words, “The golfing gods must have been watching over me… I had help from some of the volcanic rocks on the 15th which bounced the ball onto the green, a tree (on the 16th which I hit full on and the ball thankfully landed in the rough rather than the rubbish to the left of the tree), and a low post and rail fence on the 18th which shot the ball 90 degrees right back into the fairway which meant I could go over two lots of water to get to the green…!!!!” All this incredible luck contributed to a back 9 total of 19 points and catapulted her in 1st place!
Celebrations were great fun with fellow competitors enjoying the party with champagne galore.
Her haul of prizes ……….two trophies, a new TaylorMade driver, a silver key ring, a silver necklace, a BMW golf towel, tees, ball marker and pitch repairer, a bottle of champagne, and HTC 64GB SmartPhone and a return flight on Air Mauritius.
