The inaugural Zoom SCLGA AGM was held on Monday 2nd November by Pat Johns (County Captain) and Jane Covey (County President) with their “slippers” under the desk mode, which has been typical uniform for many during this particularly unusual year! She welcomed 60 participants from most Sussex Clubs with apologies received from 5.
Pat reported that, despite a year of interruptions, there were five important County events held in the 2nd half of the year; namely the Jerdein Salver (Chichester), the Veterans Championship (Ifield), the Beryl Pockett at West Sussex, the Presidents’ Team Trophy at Royal Ashdown Forest (West) and the Prue Riddiford Bowmaker (Royal Ashdown Forest Old). Huge thanks were given to those clubs who hosted these competitions, especially Chichester and Royal Ashdown Forest who stepped in at the last minute for the Jerdein and the Presidents’ Team Trophy.
Pat Johns and Jane Covey have travelled to parts of Sussex recently to meet the winners, present their trophies and take socially distanced photos as shown below.
In 2021, the SCLGA anticipates that a full program of events will take place in a Covid-friendly way – this has worked well this year with arrive, play, eat and leave without a prize giving. We expect to have the Entry Forms available soon and these will be posted on the Competitions 2021 page.
We say a very fond goodbye to Ann Carnegie who has served the SCLGA for 10 years first as Hon.Secretary and recently as Captain and Past Captain. Her eye for detail and wealth of knowledge of SCLGA protocol will be hugely missed. Another leaver who has run both Div.4 and the Glenda Ricketts Salver at Nevill GC, helping the County to raise many £1000’s for Breast Cancer Now, is Pat Codd. She now passes the baton onto Juanita Barnes for Div.4 and will be missed by the Committee for her smooth and professional work.
Caroline Hawkes (Chichester GC) is the incoming Vice-Captain to the SCLGA. She has been a member of the SCLGA Board and Committee for 4 years. She has been Div 3. Secretary, Competitions Director and organised the Jerdein Salver and the Presidents’ Team Trophy.
Sue Rushworth was also elected as Competitions Director for the next five years. She is presently Lady Captain at Royal Ashdown Forest GC, having previously been Handicap Secretary and Junior Organiser. She has been member of the Competitions Committee for 3 years and has organised the Morrice Foursomes and the Kathleen Rider.
New to the SCLGA Committee are Jo Maddams (Slinfold) where she’s been Lady Captain, Treasurer and Handicap Secretary and is a qualified Level 2 Referee. Janis Kinnear (Copthorne) has been Lady Captain, Ladies’ Secretary and Mixed Organiser. Jane Buckley plays at Chichester and has been Lady Captain, Ladies Secretary and served on the Committee.
The draws for the Inter-club Championships were announced along with the Morrice Foursomes – details are now on the SCLGA website. It’s hoped by all that these competitions will take place in 2021 and the SCLGA wishes everyone a safe and healthy end to 2020.
