Junior Girls Development

About Junior Girls Development Programme

We have 58 affiliated clubs and nearly 3,800 playing members in Sussex. Our role is wide ranging, including to:

  • Promote and encourage play at all levels
  • Identify and nurture talent
  • Develop our elite golfers and select teams to represent the county

We have an extensive Development Programme and progression plan which invests in improving the standard of golf for players of all ages and skills levels. During 2017 we ran a comprehensive range of sessions with our county coaches, including new for this year, a Junior Academy with James Verrall at Haywards Heath GC – weekend coaching sessions each month for beginners aged 7-15 for just £5 per session. Winter 17/18 Junior Coaching Programme

The Winter Junior Coaching sessions will take place with Lee Andrews at Mid-Sussex GC.  Lee welcomes all abilities, from beginners without an official handicap to those juniors with a handicap.   Click for the Winter Coaching Application Form.

Elite Girls

Our Winter Training takes place with Ryan Fenwick from West Hove and dates for the winter season will be published later this year.

After last summer’s success at the JCMW and the South Region Girls’ Championships it is important that we build on those achievements to gain further honours.  There are a number of girls who have now been promoted to the Elite Squad by reducing their handicaps and they will be invited, along with the established members, to improve their skills and game management at these sessions.  Contact Louise Simmons for more information.

Development Squad

We’re also looking for ‘improving’ juniors to join the Sussex Golf Junior Academy in 2018.  If you, or anyone you know, is a junior golfer looking to progress and develop their skills, play and learn more about golf as well as meet other girls to have fun playing, the Junior Academy is just the place.

If you have any questions, please email Christine Knight or call 01403 262194.

The SCLGA ran beginners training programmes during 2017 which offered the girls fun activities, shot technique and application as well as experience on the golf course. These sessions will be run in 2018 and are designed to work in conjunction with other club training schemes and give the girls an opportunity to play with other like-minded girls.
