Seniors and Veterans

Chris Handson, President SCLGA

2018 has been yet again a very successful year for our Seniors in the League and the 2nd Team Matches, where under the stewardship of Jo Galway, we’ve won the Mulligan Larsen Bowl for the 4th year in a row against Essex, Kent, Middlesex and Surrey.

The 2nd Team are runners-up in the Stovold Trophy, having won it for 3 years in succession up until 2017.

Our Team Managers, Jo Galway and Tessa Stockwell are taking a very well earned rest and are handing over the reins to Sara Whittaker from Willingdon (Seniors) and Sandra Holman from Haywards Heath (2nd Team) from 2019.

Congratulations to all the players who have participated in these games and kept Sussex on the map.

Chris Handson

Sussex Seniors Report 2018

It has been yet another triumphant year for the Sussex Seniors scratch League team winning the Mulligan Larsen Bowl for the forth year running against Essex, Kent, Middlesex and Surrey. Each match consists of 6 singles matchplay games and each individual game within each match counts towards the final result.

Sussex have played very well all season winning all of their matches. I would like to give special thanks to Cottesmore and Crowborough for hosting our home matches this year. We beat Essex 4.5 – 1.5 at Cottesmore and Kent 5 – 1 at Crowborough.  We played Middlesex away at Ealing and won 4 – 2 and most importantly beat Surrey away at Burhill 3.5 – 2.5. This ensured that when all added up we pipped Surrey by just 1.5 points/games totalling 17 in all for Sussex against 15.5 for Surrey. A very exciting finish to the season!

The matches have been hard fought with some excellent golf in the true spirit of the game. Thank you again to the players for their continued commitment to the Sussex Seniors scratch League and well
done on such a terrific year – long may it continue.

The players representing Sussex for 2018 were:
