On Thursday the England Golf South Region Girls’ Championships were held at Rochester and Cobham GC. Sussex were well represented with 8 girls playing in the field of 29 competitors. The course was long and the greens were difficult to read, as it proved with CSS at 75 vs Par 73 – a tough challenge.
The Under 13 Championship was played over 18 holes and Yasmin Hang from Goodwod won the event with a gross 87, net 72 which means another handicap cut – well done Yasmin!
The main Championship event was 36 holes strokeplay. By lunch time Fenella Buss (East Brighton) was lying in 3rd place with a gross 77. Anya Olsen (Worthing) also played below her handicap in the morning with a net 72.
In the afternoon, Fenella scored a fantastic 1 over par to become South Region Girls Champion for 2015 with a total of 151, winning by one shot. Fenella’s great performance also meant she won the Net Championship by 3 shots with total of 139.
In the County Team Event (best two 36 holes) Sussex finished runners up to Kent by just 3 shots – with Kent scoring 131 and Sussex 134.
A great day for the Sussex Girls – it really has been quite a season girls, we’re all very proud of you.
