Elite team 2015 EB match smallerThe annual Sussex Boys v Sussex Girls match took place at East Brighton GC on Thursday 6th August. This match plays an important part in the girls’ preparation for Junior County Matchweek which is being played next week.

Weather conditions for the morning foursomes were damp and very windy high on the South Downs. The girls played well, some in new combinations, but narrowly went down 2-3 in the morning session. In the afternoon, the weather conditions improved and there was some very sunny golf from the girls as well!

As the afternoon progressed, a 2-3 deficit had been improved to 7.5 points with just two matches out on course. Some nail biting moments, could one of those matches be converted to give the girls a win?

YES – Brandy Rook sank a 15ft putt on the 18th green to give the girls a victory over the boys 8.5-6.5!  Very well done girls – a great confidence booster for next week.

Every player deserves recognition, but I must mention three particularly good results. In the afternoon, we lost Chloe to an injury, so it fell to Captain Lizzie Price to play two boys at once – and she beat them both, that’s one for the bragging rights Lizzie! Megan Edwards turned round a 4 hole deficit to win 2&1 – she must be congratulated for her great mental strength. Finally, congratulations to Katie Field in her first season as an Elite player for winning her match 1 up – I’m sure there will many more wins to come in the future for Katie.
