The final day’s play of the Scratch Foursomes at the Dyke saw some respite from the challenging conditions of Wednesday and Thursday. Despite being chilly, the sunshine and light winds were a relief for players and spectators alike – as long as they had their mittens!
The morning semi finals saw the Nevill pair beat Pyecombe 3&2, and Rye beat West Sussex 3&1.
The final was a tight match, with 17 year old Lizzie Price and Jean Parsons from Nevill playing some steady golf against the experienced and lower handicap Rye pairing of Debbie Richards and Lisa Webster. A penalty drop on 15th meant the Rye pair were two down going to the 16th hole, where their drive found a bunker putting them at a big disadvantage. Securing the par was enough for the Nevill team to secure victory 3&2, apparently it’s 28 years since the club last won the event.
The West Sussex vs Pyecombe playoff was an equally tight game, going to the par 3 17th hole. Clarissa Bushell and Daisy Kane secured a 2&1 win against Pyecombe’s Aileen Greenfield and Alison Vermes.
Thank you to the team at the Dyke GC for their hard work and hospitality over the three days.
