This year has not started well for many clubs in Sussex due to the awful weather over the past two months and many course closures. Hopefully the weather is now on the up and Spring is in the air so we can all start to enjoy our golf.
The Development for All sessions at Mid Sussex have been popular and well attended over the winter, so now’s the time to put it into practice with the Division matches and Morrice Fours underway. The first major competition of the year is the Scratch Foursomes, which is being held at the Dyke GC 6-8 April, click for the Scratch Fours Draw 2016
As regular web site visitors will know, the 1st Team have been training under the guidance of Hannah Ralph our Team Manager in readiness for County Match Week at Walton Heath 27 June-1 July. Please put the dates in your diary as it would be lovely to see plenty of yellow support during the week. As usual, the team will be announced on the final day of the Championships which is being held at West Sussex 3-5 June. There’s always room for more competitors, so if your handicap is 14 or under please do enter this great event, it’s a highlight of our calendar.
The Elite Girls are being coached by Ryan Fenwick at West Hove in readiness for Junior County Match Week in August. Having just missed out last year, Pat Johns and her team are hoping for a 2016 win. Tessa Stockwell is again managing the 2nd Team and hopes to retain the Stovold Trophy.
Once again we have a great number of competitions catering for all ages and abilities, both fun events and qualifiers. For 2016 we have introduced a 36 hole Seniors’ Championship for ladies aged 60 and over and the first round will be played at Seniors’ A at Piltdown, with the second round played at the Beryl Pockett at Royal Eastbourne.
The first team event is the Spring Rumble at West Hove on 12 May, there are still places available. All the entry forms for our 2016 events are on the web site, click here.
I wish you all the very best of luck with your golf this year, play well and have FUN. I look forward to seeing you all on the 1st tee.
Sandra Holman, County Captain 2015-2017
