After several days of changeable and rather windy weather the Jerdein Memorial Salver was played in dry sunny conditions on Thursday, thankfully without the gusty winds of previous days. Playing the Cathedral course at Chichester GC, there were fifty clubs teeing off from 8am.
The course was not an easy one to master with only six of the hundred strong field achieving 36 points or more. It was interesting to note that not one player scored points on every one of the 18 holes!
Early leaders in the clubhouse were Charlotte Topping (with an impressive 39 points) and Emma Francis from Mannings Heath. Having tee’d off at 9.24 and 9.45 they had to wait all afternoon to find out whether they had won. Thankfully Chichester’s new Adventure Golf provided great entertainment for them during the afternoon!
In the end they were pipped to top spot by Vicki Pett and Helen McRobert from Seaford who scored 36 and 38 points respectively to post a winning margin of 3 points.
• Winners – Seaford GC 74 points
• Runners up Mannings Heath GC 71 points
Grateful thanks to the Lady Captain, Caroline Hawkes and her army of ball spotters and the staff at Chichester Golf Club for looking after everyone so very well.
