The dull weather on Sunday 13th September did not detract from some scintillating and sparkling golf from the Sussex girls in their Autumn Meeting at Royal Eastbourne!
The field was depleted as five girls were attending a selection day for the England Golf South East Region Under 16 squad. However, if there wasn’t quantity in the field – there was certainly quality!
The winner of the Autumn Meeting was Brandy Rook (Royal Eastbourne) with a terrific score of 40 points playing off a handicap of just 4, shooting a level par round – fantastic golf!
Ellen Nicholas (Ham Manor) celebrated her first Hole in One on the 18th hole (147 yards par 3) congratutulations! Ellen is just 14 years old and was Runner Up with 37 points.
As well as the day’s competition, we also celebrated the girls’ successes throughout the season. Two highlights were Anna Wills, aged 13 of Crowborough Beacon, who won the Langridge Junior Order of Merit with three wins and a runner up position in the four competitions she played in. Anna not only received the Langridge Salver, but also a generous voucher from Ryan Fenwick (Sussex Girls Coach) at West Hove Golf Club.
The Juliet Morgan Trophy for the most improved player went to Yasmin Hang, aged 12, of Golf at Goodwood. Yasmin has reduced her handicap from 18 to 11 this season and was one of the girls invited to attend the England Golf selection day.
Junior County Colours were presented to Brandy Rook, Zhane Mayo and Fenella Buss in recognition of their performances over the past two years at Junior County Matchweek.
Many thanks to Royal Eastbourne GC for their continued support and generous hospitality in hosting this event. Thanks also to the members of the County Junior Committee who give their time and support throughout the season. A special ‘Thank You’ to Margaret Grover (County President 2012-14) who presented the prizes and awards.
