It’s been a busy few weeks for the top golfers in Sussex, with the winter training sessions at Walton Heath and Piltdown for our County squad. Unfortunately, the session planned for Royal Ashdown Forest was cancelled as the course was closed due to the heavy rain.
For those who couldn’t attend the session earlier in the month, the squad went back to Walton Heath on the 21st February. The six players in two groups played individual stableford and the scores at the top were very close – Penny Brown clinched the money with 34 points. Lots of notes were made and it gave everybody a good feel for the course despite the winter conditions.
This was followed by a visit to Piltdown the following week, it’s good practice for County Match Week as it’s a similar course, particularly with the heather (not yet at its lushest!) There were two fourballs, with two pairs playing foursomes. They enjoyed playing Piltdown and the brilliant team spirit was in abundance. Apparently the 50p incentive continues to keep the squad focused and competitive, as well as providing much entertainment for everybody!
The weeks ahead are very busy for the players, so the next session at Piltdown is in May, a few weeks before CMW is played at Walton Heath.
County Captain, Sandra Holman, and Hannah Ralph the Team Manager thank the squad for their dedication and commitment to Sussex over the winter period of training. They say ‘we have a great bunch of ladies/girls and it’s a pleasure for us both to be involved, thank you’.
