The ladies of Singing Hills plus invited guests got into the spirit of the Rugby World Cup on Saturday, when members Sandy Fell and Jill Miles created a themed fun golf day (or Golby 2015). After the success of their previous events, Olympics 2012 and Commonwealth Games in 2014, everyone knew that the bar was set very high (not just for the drop kick!) for each team’s themed outfits.
Note, the Welsh daffodils back left in the picture, headgear worn for the entire round!
With ten teams of three competing as a country (not sure they were all rugby playing nations?) there were lots of sporting challenges awaiting the players. Each country had a nominated joker hole with the opportunity to double their points (we all remember It’s a Knock Out?!) One hole included chipping over specially constructed rugby goal posts into the try area to boost points, with extra points for then converting the 10 foot putt (only 2 players managed this!) There was also an opportunity for a ‘free kick’ for each player and a ‘free’ backward throw over the shoulder to get out of trouble.
Most entertaining was the rugby shaped golf ball (apparently there’s a game in New Zealand called golf cross which uses this ball, with scoring through rugby posts with nets rather than a golf hole……. takes all sorts!!)
Lots of fun and laughter, all in a good cause for Children In Need this year. Well done ladies!
