The members of Worthing Golf Club swapped their golf shoes for hiking boots at the weekend to raise funds for the Anthony Nolan Trust, a pioneering charity which saves the lives of people with blood cancer. To find out more about their work click here.
Club Captain, John Woods and Lady Captain Nicky Dugard together with their partners Di and Matt led the way with 38 people getting involved in the 24 mile hike. On Saturday they walked from Cocking to Amberley, and despite being weary and footsore, they managed a further 13 miles on Sunday walking from Amberley back to the golf club.
Happy not to be playing golf due to the torrential rain falling on their fellow golfers back in Worthing, the happy hikers yomping across the countryside experienced blue skies and were treated to Sussex and the South Downs at their best.
Aside from the views and the company, most of the walkers report that their highlights included the refreshments shuttled to various key points by one enterprising member’s wife, and the cream tea laid on by the Club Captain John Woods for the weary and blistered hikers!
Congratulations to everybody who took part, the funds are still being counted, but they hope to raise around £3000.
