No doubt the 54 players saw the forecast and packed their waterproofs this morning with foreboding. A chilly, blustery day with heavy downpours made the playing conditions challenging, and many of the field wished at times that they were somewhere else! Despite the weather, there were some great rounds played with many of the juniors performing well.
Sadly play after lunch was blighted by 2 hours of very heavy rain, but the greenkeepers did a fine job with their squeegees. Spirits weren’t dampened and there was some excellent golf played with great scoring. The sun came out early afternoon, and the fairways, greens (and some of the players….) gently steamed as the sun warmed everything up. The views were stunning, and the course looked very lush and green.
With a par of 72, lowest scoring rounds of the day were Daisy Wakelin (pm – 70) juniors Penny Brown (pm – 71) and Jelina Fernando (am – 73) Chelsea Masters (pm – 73) and Aileen Greenfield (pm – 73). There were 30 rounds of under 80, quite remarkable given the playing conditions.
