Sussex U14 take a French Adventure

On the 28th & 29th October a team of six U14 players from Sussex competed in the inaugural M15 Cup hosted by the Golf Federation of Haute Normandie. The team of six Sussex players consisted of four boys and two girls and Lizzie Price from The Nevill & Maddy Man from Haywards Heath did us proud as the girls chosen to compete.

Order of Merit 2011

Congratulations to Megan Edwards from Hill Barn who was crowned this years Order of Merit winner at Royal Eastbourne GC at the girls Autumn Meeting. Megan will receive an outfit of her choice from this years sponser Swing Out Sister based at Cuckfield Golf Centre.

Autumn Meeting 2011

This years Junior Girls Autumn Meeting was held on Thursday 27th October. Our thanks as ever to Royal Eastbourne GC and its members who allow us to come back each year and use their facilities.
This years the Autumn Meeting was won by Catriona Houston from Royal Eastbourne with a fantastic 43 points, just pipping Lauren Hawkins from Beauport Park on countback. The scratch prize went to Amber Cockram from Slinfold with a gross 78, just 5 over par.

Alresford Cup 2011
Wednesday 19th October 2011
On Sunday 2nd October we took 6 girls of various abilities down to Hampshire for the Alresford Cup. Started a few years ago, the cup is for teams of 6 girls from nine counties in the South East, competing in a team stableford. 4 out of the 6 scores were to count and with Surrey scoring all 6 in the 30's they romped to victory with a total of 145pts. Our girls did Sussex proud and played their hearts out but unfortunately we ended in 9th place by just one point.

Player Development Programme 2011/12

This years Winter Player Development Programme will take place between October 2011 & March 2012 at Slinfold & Sweetwoods Golf Clubs. The programme is open to any junior girl who is a member of an affliliated Sussex club with a handicap of 18 or below.

Team Challenge 2011

Our annual Girls Team Challenge took place on Sunday 11th September at Cuckfield Golf Centre. Teams of three girls played a 9 hole Texas Scramble with a low handicap girl being team leader to the other 2 girls. Maddy Man with her team of Amy Bonner and Lily Margaroli won with a nett 36.25 on a countback from Jelina Fernando, Lauren Hawkins & Sian Allison.

Sussex Girls vs Boys - Eastbourne Downs GC
Friday 12th August 2011
The annual Sussex Girls vs Boys match was played last week at Eastbourne Downs GC and would be the last competitve match the girls team would play before heading off to Counties Week in Kent on the 16th August.
The team went out strong in the morning foursomes with Hope Beland & Maddy Man, Sophie Kennard & Lizzie Price and Amy Davey & Marina Holden all winning their games, whilst Hannah Duval & Jelina Fernando held out for a good half to mean we went into the afternoon 3.5-2.5 up!
The singles in the afternoon were again closely fought. Congratulations though go to Hope, Maddy, Jelina, Amy, Holly who all won their matches and to Lizzie for a well fought half. This did mean the singles score was 6.5-5.5 to the boys and the match (for the first time ever) was a half 9-9.

South Region Girls Championships 2011

This years EWGA South Region Girls Championship took place on Friday 5th August at Stoneham Golf Club in Hampshire.
Our Sussex girls played incredibly well with Sophie Kennard from West Hove winning the U18 Handicap Trophy with a nett 136, closely followed in 2nd place by Hope Beland of Royal Eastbourne with a nett 146. Hannah Duval from Highwoods ended up in 3rd place after Hope beat her on countback!
More success came in the U15 Trophy with Maddy Man from Haywards Heath coming in 1st place with a nett 137.

Junior County Match Week Team Announced

This years Junior County Match Week team was announced at the Girls Championships at Cottesmore GC. The team will be;
Hope Beland (Captain), Sarah Park, Sophie Kennard, Hannah Duval, Elizabeth Price, Jelina Fernando, Amber Cockram and Maddy Man. Our non-travelling reserve is Penelope Brown.
We wish the girls the best of luck! If anyone wishes to come and support the girls they will be playing at Rochester & Cobham GC between 16th - 18th August.
SCLGA Girls Championship 2011

A number of girls competed at Cottesmore GC in 36 hole, 18 hole and 9 hole competitions at this years Sussex Junior Girls Championships.
Congratulations go to our new U18 Champion, Sophie Kennard from West Hove and U15 Champion, Elizabeth Price from The Nevill. The 1st Handicap Trophy went to Amber Cockram from Slinfold.

Worthing Junior Girls Open

On a windy day at Worthing Golf Club, 30 girls competed for the Pat Brown Trophy and the Di Langridge Scratch Trophy. Megan Edwards from Hill Barn GC and Jelina Fernando from Mid Sussex GC took the prizes respectively.

Sussex U15 Girls v Sussex U13 Boys

The Sussex U15 Girls had a successful match at Haywards Heath GC beating the Sussex U13 Boys 5-3.

Fund Raising Day 2011

On Sunday 17th April we held a Fund Raising Day in aid of the Sussex Junior Girls. This was a fun adult/junior greensomes event held on Royal Ashdown Forests 'West Course'.
This day was brilliantly supported and we raised £600 to be put towards new uniforms and county coaching for all girls who enter our competitions.

New Junior Captain Announced...

We are pleased to announce that this years Junior Girls Captain will be Hope Beland from Royal Eastbourne. We wish Hope good luck with her new role and thank Emma Carberry, our outgoing Captain, for all she did last year.

New Junior Website

Happy New Year! The junior website has had a mini facelift for the new year in line with the main website. We now have our own Junior News page and a number of other pages have been added too.
AGM Raffle

Many thanks to everyone that bought raffle tickets at this year's AGM. The total amount raised was almost £310, which has all been donated to the SCLGA Junior Girls Fund. This will be a massive asset to helping to run the section and encourage the girls and is much appreciated.
