Sussex Champs Q-School Report

15 January 2012

After competing in 4 rounds against 200 top players vying for the highly prized 30 places available on the professional tour, Stacey Rodger (West Hove) and Hannah Ralph (Cowdray Park) tell us about the highs and lows of their Ladies European Tour Q-School experience at La Manga last week.

With only 6 players coming in under par over the 4 rounds, La Manga was clearly a tough test of golf.

Stacey Rodger

‘I felt confident going into the week, I knew it would be tough, but I was up for the challenge! I struggled on the back 9 on the first round so really was up against it – but the next two days good rounds got me back into the tournament.

My highlight of the week was my level par round - I had 6 birdies including holing a shot from 30 yards out!

I loved the travelling, playing the awesome courses and being there with so many great players. I know my golf is up to it, so my focus will be working on the mental side of the game to help me compete at this level.

I had an amazing time and can’t wait for this season’s big amateur events’.

‘Having worked hard on my game and fitness, I was looking forward to finally getting out there again. I felt good - prepared and ready to go.

The adrenaline was flowing and there were plenty of highs over the week. My driving was strong, but I need to work harder on my short game since it’s the difference between making it and not. Having missed the cut by just 2 shots, I needed a couple more putts to drop.

I want to play in the Tour Access events, so will work on my game and plans for 2012 once it’s all sunk in.

A big thank you to everyone who has supported me last year and in the build up to Q School, I very much appreciated it.'
